About
The Cross of Sacrifice was originally erected in 1926 as a World War One Memorial. It now commemorates both World Wars with the addition of a bronze plaque after World War Two. Remembrance parades are held at the Cross annually on Remembrance Sunday, the Sunday closest to 11th November. The Cross stands in front of Stanley Cemetery which is over 150 years old. As well as Falkland Islanders, the cemetery has graves of men of the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy who drowned nearby and Commonwealth War Graves.
