Getting Around
Travelling around the archipelago is the essence of the Falkland experience. Whether by air, land or sea, your journeys are certain to be memorable moments.
Arrange an island-hopping itinerary to experience the thrill of air travel by Britten Norman Islander aircraft. These 10-seater planes are the usual mode of transport to reach the outer islands and operate across airstrips on both East and West Falkland. Enjoy amazing views of the Islands’ land and seascapes, often calling in to small settlements and remote farms en-route to your final destination.

The two main islands, East and West Falkland, have a good road network linking the main settlements on each island. Passing through spectacular stone runs, traversing hills and valleys, a road trip gives a feel for the size of the archipelago and the changing landscapes of East and West. Opt to travel with an experienced driver/guide to look, listen and learn about our Islands and really appreciate the surroundings. But for those keen to make their own way, car hire is available in a number of different vehicle types.

East and West Falkland are linked by a ferry service. This is great way to travel for those based in the Islands for a few weeks or longer but does require access to a vehicle which can be taken on the ferry or parked at the terminal. It is not usually a practical option for international travellers on a short stay; however, everyone can enjoy watching and waving from the departure points – Newhaven on East Falkland and Port Howard on West Falkland - if the opportunity arises!
