About
Black Shanty House is a traditional style house that has recently undergone extensive renovation to provide very comfortable accommodation to guests. It has all modern amenities and is situated in a position that is both beautiful as well as central for exploring West Falkland.
The house is an attractive two-storey dwelling situated within the Fox Bay West settlement on West Falkland. Fox Bay West is a busy farming location with a large shearing shed, the hub of activity for Rincon Ridge and Lake Sulivan farms. Guests are free to explore the scenery and attractions these farms have to offer. These include a Gentoo penguin rookery, trout and mullet fishing on the Malo river, beautiful white sandy beaches, mountains and Lake Sulivan, the largest lake in the Falkland Islands.
Due to the central location it is also the ideal base for exploring other areas of West Falkland including The Patricia Luxton National Nature Reserve at Chartres and Hawk’s Nest Pond reserve near Little Chartres.
The settlement of Fox Bay East is only a ten minute drive away. Fuel can be purchased there, The Southern Cross Social Club is open to all each weekend, visits can be made to The Post Office Museum and a well-stocked shop is open twice weekly.
Black Shanty House itself is centrally heated and double glazed throughout, enjoys 24 hour electricity provision, has three comfortable bedrooms, modern kitchen and bathroom facilities and great care has been taken to try to provide everything guests might need for a comfortable stay in , what many guests describe as ‘a home away from home’.
Black Shanty House is accessible for visitors with limited mobility. There is mobile coverage in the area.
