I am dissapointed to find in my guidebooks that the only way of visiting is via Santiago, Chile, and not from Argentina, where I thought it would be cheaper. Yes I am aware of the events of the Falkland island war in the 80's. What I am not aware of is how current relations are between the UK and Argentina.”

“I visited the Falkland Islands in December 04 - January 05 with my mum and two sisters because my dad was working there for two months as he is a meteorologist. We stayed in Goose Green for a week it was a bit like a ghost town and not a very pleasant place to stay I didn't think! The next week we stayed in my dad's room at the base. I liked it much better as there was a shop, library, bowling and a cinema. I got to fly in a Hercules and a VC10! That was amazing and I got a view of the Falklands from the back of the Hercules. Overall I found the experience brilliant and I can't wait to go back.”

I certainly will be asking for an application form. Please let me have your thoghts. Regards.”

“I was the Flight Sergeant i/c the RAF Police at Stanley Airport from the November following the conflict until March the following year. I and some colleagues lodged with Rosita Betts and her family in Hebe Street. Although far from home I have many happy memories of my time spent in the Falkland Islands. I wonder if any Port Stanley residents remember the yellow search and rescue helicopter being painted pink overnight by a couple of rather drunken sailors. If Rosita and her girls are still on the Island please give them my best wishes. Kind regards to all.

“To the People of the Falklands: I have always had an interest in the islands due to their history. World War I through the Falkland Island war of 1982 makes the place exciting to study. The history before 1914 is wonderful to read. But your website helps to put a face and personality on the people and the place that history alone could not do. What a marvelous job you have done. I will make sure and share this with my friends in Tennessee and my family in Alabama and Mississippi. Hopefully I will be able to visit one day, as I also plan to visit Aberdeenshire, Scotland, my ancestral home. May God bless you all, everyone. Till then, I remain, in the Christian Bonds of the Old South, Very Respectfully, Your Obedient Servant.”

“You can leave the Falkland Islands but the Islands will never leave you. That's what I've found anyway. It's so good to see the Islands developing in their own way - and this site is a great idea, well done. We have contact with some friends from FI occasionally, and would love to chat to more. Best wishes to you all.”
