Despite the fact that its population of just over 2000 people would be lost in the crowd at any well-attended ball game, the Falkland Islands offers the visitor a surprisingly wide variety of accommodation. Starting in the historic cathedral town of Stanley, the Islands’ capital, there is a choice of two small, but well-appointed hotels, three guest houses and a growing number of bed and breakfast establishments for those who want to experience true local hospitality at first hand.

Outside of Stanley, in what is known throughout the Falklands simply as "The Camp" the choice continues: at Sea Lion Island, Darwin, Port Howard and Pebble Island the visitor will find tourist lodges offering comfortable full-board, mostly en-suite accommodation and the chance to enjoy a real taste of local produce, simply, but superbly cooked. Elsewhere, from isolated islands to mainland farms along the Falkland Islands' growing network of rural roads, there are cottages to rent for the independent traveller. Sometimes, as at Carcass Island and Port San Carlos, these cottages come with a ‘meals provided’ option. In some locations, such as West Lagoons farm at Hill Cove on the West Falklands, the owners provide not only full-board accommodation, but also the opportunity to share in the life and work of the farm.

Details of available accommodation in the Falkland Islands can be obtained from Falkland Islands Tourism tourism@horizon.co.fk or from the Falkland Islands Tourism web-site: www.tourism.org.fk Tailor made itineraries can be organised through either Stanley Services Ltd or International Tours and Travel

Starting in the 2002-2003 tourism season, the Falkland Islands Tourism Association will be introducing a system of quality grading for tourism accommodation designed to help the visitor choose the right establishment to match budget with expectations. Full details of this scheme will also be available on the Falkland Islands Tourism web-site.

To experience the unique culture of the Falkland Islands first hand visit Sea Lion Island, Darwin House, Pebble Island, Carcass Island, West Lagoons Farm, Port Howard Lodge and Guesthouse Port Howard.
