Surrounded by water and at the same latitude South as London in the United Kingdom is North, the Falkland Islands enjoy a narrow temperature range between -5șC in July and 22șC in January.

Rainfall is relatively low with an average of 24 inches (626mm) per year and strong winds (average 8 m/s or 15 knots) are common.

The clear unpolluted air and sunshine hours averaging over 6 hours per day between November and February, coupled with the presence of the hole in the ozone layers (which sometimes sits above the Islands), means that good sunglasses and a high factor sun tan cream are recommended.
